Another Cover Copy!!!

Monday, November 28, 2011

Okay, this one is so obvious, especially since both of these are recent books. Other bloggers have to have already commented on this, but since I've been sort of absent, I'm just noticing this.

Really?? I'd be so mad if I were the author! I only noticed this one because I was looking through my wish list on paperbackswap.com and saw Mockingbird on there but knew that the copy of Long Drive Home that I have has the same picture. Crazy!

I am shocked at how egregious that is!

This is always so amazingly frustrating to me. Are there not enough pictures in the world for them to choose different images for book covers? Ugh!

Wow....that is amazingly wrong.

I would be mad too, especially in this case when they didn't tweak the photo at all.

Wow .. that is so completely the same! Not good!

I just saw one the other day--can't remember one of the titles but the other was a Billie Letts book (I think). I don't get it...why not be original?!

Geez, I actually didn't know this could be done. I'd be furious if I were the authors!!!

Wow! Is it the same publisher?

What happened here is that the designers who produced these covers unluckily purchased the same stock photo image. Most images on covers these days are not specifically-commissioned photos or illustrations but what are called stock photos available from vendors such as Getty Images, Shutterstock, iStock or Fotolia, etc. The reason? They’re generally very inexpensive.

What is shown in this posting is one of the unlucky things that can happen when everyone has access to the same photos, rather than commissioning images specifically for a cover as was done in the past.
