Cover Copies

Saturday, August 27, 2011

I haven't posted about one of these in a while, but this one was so blatantly THE SAME. Maybe they thought because there were three years between the publication dates no one would notice??? Well, I had the first one recommended to me a while ago so it's sitting unread on my shelf and I noticed this one right away!

Cover copies like this really discourage me for some reason. How about we get away from the mentality of even keeping stock pictures, and we utilize designers to create consistently original covers! Is this a reflection of the bad economy? I feel confused about the reason for this.

What, did they just photoshop the tights, and send it out? That drives me nuts. Some are not so obvious, but still shows a total lack of creativity. There for awhile, it was a sea of headless bodices. I'd like to challenge publishers to shock me with a cover!

Like Sandy, these just kill me! But I imagine most non-blogging people don't see as many books at one time as we do, and maybe don't notice.

OMG that bugs me too. SO lazy.

I also tend to get discouraged when I see multiple covers that are exactly the same. Either someone is not doing their job properly, or laziness just sets in. These covers are almost identical!

That is crazy! And annoying.

This is so wild. I'm not sure I've seen such a blatant repetitive use of the same photo art....horrible!! I'm not sure what the process behind cover art and Titles even is, but I think it could use some work.

They did put tights on the second one and added some kind of string hanging down. If I were an author, it would bother me if they didn't think enough of my book to give it an original cover.

I hate the overuse of stock photos with little changes -- so annoying!
