Sunday Salon: When Things Don't Go Quite as Planned

Sunday, May 15, 2011

I started to realize my reading was slowing down. I'm not sure what to attribute it to exactly except maybe some type of burnout and the fact that I have felt like my work has been overwhelming me lately and I haven't been able to keep up. So I had this great plan that I would space out my reviews a little more than usual this month and by doing so I could use only the reviews I already had written. Then I could just read, read, read this month and have tons more reviews to choose from in the coming months. What I didn't anticipate was that my reading would slow even more! I haven't finished a book since May 1st which makes it now two weeks officially. I never go that long without finishing one! Normally I'd have read four to six by now! So that sort of spoils the plan of having tons to choose from for next month. So now I need to come up with a back up plan.

Part of the reason I haven't accomplished much of anything in the past week or so is I randomly became sick this past week, but worse than usual. I had a fever and was practically immobile a couple days. But instead of listening to my body, I tried to push myself to work. Well, even when I did stay home, I wasn't doing anything even remotely using my brain because I was too tired even for that. And like I said, the week prior to that I felt overwhelmed with work.

So, hopefully things will pick up this week. I keep getting amazing books in the mail that I'm so excited to read! OH! And because I haven't been reading or using my brain much, I also haven't been online much and that means not commenting as much as I've wanted. No worries, though. While I'm a little behind, I still plan on catching up on some blogs!

Hope everyone's getting more reading done than I am! ;)

For the non-blogging community, this wouldn't matter. But we have an internal clock ticking, telling us we need to post things. Crazy. And I know how you feel. I've been doing alright with audios, but I was reading one particular book that was the longest 300 pages I've ever seen. And I was getting twitchy because I don't have time for books like that. I hope you are able to kick start yourelf, but try not to stress about it. We're not going anywhere!

Sometimes our bodies and brains try really hard to send us messages and we often don't listen very well. Take the time, take care of yourself. The books will be there when you are able to read again (hopefully very soon) and we'll be here when you post again.

Try not to worry too much about the blog suffering (says the girl who wrote a similar post today). :)

I haven't been reading much either, and I too am trying to space out the reviews more! I think especially in the summer there tends to be less activity on the reader, and people are so busy no one really notices. (or at least one can tell oneself that!)

I'm having the same problem! I typically read 15 or so books each month but I've only read 4 so far in May. And I have deadlines for reviews fast approaching. I know that for me, I've been doing more non-reading stuff lately like going out with friends, etc. But I do hope you are feeling better!

I hope you feel better really, really soon. I know you are wanting to read the same amount of books you use to read or more....Life happens. It takes us by surprise.

I know just what you mean about getting off track with your reading. The months of February and March were particularly idle for me in terms of reading. So much so that I started to panic that I would have nothing to post! I hope that you are feeling better and that you can resume with your regularly scheduled reading very soon. It can make for some very panicky feelings when you aren't up to normal speed!

There are always ups and downs with reading, blogging, and everything else. I definitely know how you feel. In fact, I came down with a cold two weeks ago that still hasn't let go! Hang in there. It sounds like your body just called for a time out for a bit.
