Top Ten Books I Resolve to Read in 2011
These are pretty much in no particular order...
  1. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
Okay, so I'm sort of cheating because I already started reading this one. But only because I had so resolved to! I'm only about a quarter of the way through so I can still put it on this list. =)
  2. In The Woods by Tana French
Why have I not read this yet?? I've heard it's such a great series!
  3. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
    See #2
  4. Freedom by Jonathan Franzen
I haven't ready any of his books either and I need to see what the hype is all about!
  5. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Oh I've heard such great things, and this one has a sequel coming out this spring!! Must read it first!
  6. Lowboy by John Wray
I am sooo intrigued by the premise of this one!! A kid with Schizophrenia... riding the NYC subway all day... plus my hubby read it and thinks I'll like it.
  7. American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld
I had already thought this one looked good so I added it to my TBR. But I found out Carrie at Nomadreader looooved this one and since she also loved Room and especially If You Follow Me, I knew I would have to read this one too!
  8. On Beauty by Zadie Smith
I don't know much about this one but I feel like this is an author I should read and like this is one of those powerful kind of books. Plus I have a giveaway copy of this when I finally get around to reading and reviewing it!!
  9. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
It's a classic I've been meaning to get to for years. In fact, this was the first experience I had buying a used book online (ebay) prior to joining paperbackswap and I got a horrible quality book so I got mad and didn't read it, lol. I've since bought a super pretty copy from the bookstore but still need to get to reading it!
  10. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
Not only have I not read anything by this author before and need to, but I reallly had planned it around the time the movie came out, then around Halloween, etc. and it never amounted to anything. I really want to read it. Especially so I can then watch the movie too!!

On a side note, I already own a copy of every single one of these books... so I have no excuse!!

Nice list! Let's see...#3 has lots of hype...#5 has currently ensnared my Mom (and I mean really...as in it's so good she doesn't want to put it down)....and #10 was really good...creepy too. Happy reading!

The Bell Jar is a great book; very powerful.

Hmm, I'm going to have to do this, too!

I just finished In the Woods around 4:30 this morning. Stayed up to finish it, it was that good. I think you will enjoy it.

Yay for already owning the books! I'm sorta on a book buying ban, so my list comes from my collection as well.

I really want to read The Bell Jar, too! But it really intimidates me, regardless of what great reviews it gets. I think it will be depressing.

I don't even know where to tell you to start because you have listed so many great books!

Marce: I know! I gotta see what it's all about!

GMR: Awesome! I can't wait to read them!

Christy: This was fun!

Melissa: Awesome!! I'm so glad to hear that!

Christina: I'm not good at book bans, lol. Some of these are fairly recent additions because I knew I really wanted to read them!!

Aarti: Yeah that's def. true, especially considering the author's history.

Lola: LOL! I'm really looking forward to reading these!

Great list of books! I keep thinking I should make a list like this, but it seems the moment I write them down, I refuse to read them. :)

Love your list - great that you already own these :}. I have read the Bell Jar about 3 times. Excellent choices here. You might also enjoy a new sci-fi thriller out called, Pink Noise: A Posthuman Tale by Leonid Korogodski. I just finished reading it and found the characters and story to be very engaging and unique. I haven't read a story like this one before.

Great list! I should have put Dragon Tattoo on my list, but had too many others ahead of it in the tbr line.

Love #1 and #3 and I think I should read #8 too!

Trisha: Funny how that happens, right?? I'm always torn about what to read next and "forget" that I have large lists of MUST READ books LOL.

Audrey: Usually when I know I'm gonna want to eventually read something I end up buying it, LOL.

Kim: I hear ya! There are many more I could have put!

Playing.Librarian: I'm really enjoying #1. It's so different but already so powerful!

I have read a handful of these, and have to say that they are all great choices! I hope that you are able to realize your goals in the upcoming year! Good Luck!

Strong list, Jenny! You know how I feel about Tana French and Dennis Lehane! The Bell Jar I read years ago and I would say it's a must read.

If I Stay is great and so is American Wife! Great picks!

Can't WAIT to hear what you think of EL&IC. Another blogger just listened to it and didn't really like it (though I don't think it's one to listen to).

The Bell Jar's been on my list for a long time. For some reason I always forget about it!

Hooray for American Wife! I plan to read In the Woods soon too as I got it for Christmas. I'll be reading On Beauty later this year as part of my Orange winners reading. Jonathan Safran Foer is an author I've been intending to read for years too. I don't read much YA anymore, either, but If I Stay was lovely. Happy reading!

Trish: I LOOOVED it!! I have the review written and ready to post later this week (and I linked to yours too because I remember you loved it too). =) And I saw that blogger's review you were talking about.. I agree.. I don't see how it could have the same affect in audio.

Carrie: Cool! EL&IC is different but I'm thinking you'll like it. I love that you read all those award winners/short lists!
