Sunday Salon

Sunday, June 13, 2010

Some days seem to drag by, and the weeks always do to me since I'm constantly exhausted during the week and can't wait until Saturdays -- my only day off! But then before I know it I find myself writing another Sunday Salon post, and I realize time is actually going by pretty quickly! However, exhaustion has taken over every minute of my life these days. I've wondered how much longer I can take school/working an internship in addition to everything else. Had I known before I started it would take me as long as it has so far, even, (not to mention the next year, at least) to get my master's degree, I promise I would never have started. I feel like I was tricked. *sigh*

So that's been on my mind, but the other thing that has me close to tears is the still-missing box of books I shipped myself from BEA!!! Where is it??? And why did I not think to put tracking on it??? I called the post office the other day and the person I spoke to said parcel post can take up to 2-3 weeks so I shouldn't worry about it too much. She also said that it travels by truck and it's all about finding room for it in the truck. I secretly suspect some person(s) may or may not want to lift the 50 lb. box and that's what's taking so long. Had I known it would be like this, I would have tried to fit many more books in my suitcases and carry on luggage, lol! But I think I may actually cry for real if it never arrives...

As for what I'm currently reading... I've got about 4 books going right now, lol! I try to stick to one at a time, but there are so many I want to read that I start reading them all at the same time. My main reading has been The Outside Boy by Jeanine Cummins. Overall, it's pretty good so far. I'll finish it up today and have a more thought out opinion. I'll be posting the review soon.

If you're a fellow book blogger, you probably already know about Book Blogger Appreciation Week coming up. The week is actually in September, but registration/"nominations" take place between now and July 7th. I will be registering and posting my links soon. I think I have myself narrowed down to a niche. But I fear that if I register now I'll write something great between now and the end of registration and won't get to include that link, lol! So we'll see, but you should see my post up for that in the next week or two.

Also, I am starting a new feature on my blog soon. It's just something really little but will be fun for me and will allow me to feature even more books on my blog. So look for that! And I never did get around to posting about the Hot Book Club Books panel I attended at BEA. I will still be doing that but I think I'm going to post it over 5 posts since they featured so many books. But we'll see.

Happy Sunday and great week to everyone!

You've definitely got a lot on your plate! But you've come this far and have managed it all (which really impresses me) so just push through the rest!

hang in there with that full schedule! Going to school while working and doing an internship is impressive and it will be worth it in the end.

Good luck with the books - I hope they arrive soon!

Oh no! Fingers crossed that your books show up soon! I would've cried, too, if mine disappeared.

And hang in there with school/work...just think of how you'll feel when you're done (besides exhausted :-D ).

Hang in there! It took me a total of five years to get my master's degree while working full time and raising two kids (one of whom was just an infant). It is exhausting, but the feeling you get when you are finished is indescribable. Good luck!

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that your box of books gets to you soon! That has to be so nerve-wracking for you.

You know what they say about it's "darkest before the dawn"? Well, I think that applies to graduate school, too. I do remember those times. I did my graduate studies at night while working by day, and it took four years, but felt like fifteen!!

Hang in there!

And I've got my fingers crossed for your books arriving...maybe tomorrow!

Here's my salon:

I wish I had your time management skills. I work as a substitute teacher from time to time, and I can't even find time to even go on the computer those days.

I dream of going to graduate school, but with a almost 2 year old and a almost 10 year old the task seems too daunting right now. Good luck in all your endeavors! The reward will make it that much more of an accomplishment!

The missing box of books is stressing me out for you. Terrible! It sounds like life is pretty hectic right now. When I was getting my masters, I remember no sleep, lots of deep breathing, and a general manic personality. It will end though.

Everyone -- thank you so much for all the supportive comments about school (and my books, lol). I've had a really hard time lately with it!

Michelle -- thanks for telling me that! It'll be a little over 4 years by the time I finish. On top of that we are not putting off having a baby if it happens because we've already been trying 4 years so if that happens I may have to take a breather for a little bit. It's nice to know I'm not alone if struggling with it and taking a while!

Trisha -- haha, that pretty much describes me!!

Happy Sunday to you! I so hope you get your box soon! I would cry my eyes out. :(

Good luck with your busy weeks. It's hard to balance life some times. Exhaustion is a killer. I feel that every day!

It sounds as if you are really stressed right now, and the fact that your books are MIA is probably not helping! I hope that they arrive very soon and that you can start to have more relaxing time soon. I think you are doing an amazing job of handling everything that's keeping you busy, and I hope you have a great week ahead!

It's frightening to me how fast time has been going this year! Like you I've been working like mad and it just makes the time go faster. :( Will you have a break from school over the summer at least?

Hope you've gotten your BEA books by now!!
