Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday – this is a weekly event hosted by me! It is the time each week to recognize those older books… an older book you’ve always wanted to read, or one that you have read and love; maybe one from your childhood; or review an older book -- how about even a classic! Leave a comment here and feel free to take an icon and use it on your blog!

This week's throwback is:

1984 by George Orwell

From bn.com:
Orwell's final novel, 1984, is the story of one man's struggle against the ubiquitous, menacing state power (“Big Brother”) that tries to dictate nearly every aspect of human life. The novel is a classic in anti-utopian fiction, and a trenchant political satire that remains as relevant today as when it was first published.

This book equally fascinated and terrified me. Creeped me out is actually more like it. These feelings are typical, for me, of dystopian fiction. Reading dystopia is like voluntarily entering into a nightmare. But I still do it every once in a while, lol.

This is just a novel everybody should read at least once in their lives!

What a fun meme. I'll have to do this. I haven't read this one, it does sounds interesting. I'll have to add it to my must read list!

I read this in high school...right after it was 1984, so that seemed to make it especially creepy. And us kind of grateful that Big Brother wasn't watching us yet.

I went through a 1984-Brave New World-Farenheit 451 re-reading fiasco for about three years. I think everyone should read all three of these books.

I haven't yet read 1984 - not sure how that's possible, because I have always wanted to pick it up!

Thanks for hosting - I did a Throwback Thursday here.

Maria and Michelle -- I agree! I didn't have to read this for school though. It's very possible that if I would have been required to, I wouldn't have read or finished it and wouldn't have returned to it, hehe.

Juju -- I've been meaning to read Animal Farm, lol!

Natalie - I think of this as the original dystopian book, lol. I think it's the first one I read.

Jill -- ooh that must have been weird!

Trisha -- Me too! Although I haven't read Brave New World. I had a beautiful copy that I'd never read and it was one of the first books I trade when I joined paperbackswap. I guess I need to get another copy, lol! Fahrenheit 451 was required in jr. high so I don't remember it well. I should add it to the re-read list!

Kristi -- it's funny how some books are on the to read list forever and keep getting passed up by others, isn't it? LOL!
