**For those of you who do Throwback Thursday, if you could, please re-save the image you use as I have updated them with my new url. Thanks!!**

Throwback Thursday – this is a weekly event hosted by me! It is the time each week to recognize those older books… an older book you’ve always wanted to read, or one that you have read and love; maybe one from your childhood; or review an older book -- how about even a classic! Leave a comment here and feel free to take an icon and use it on your blog!

This week's throwback is:

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

From bn.com:
As a young man, Jacob Jankowski was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob, now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It was there that he met Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great gray hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and, ultimately, it was their only hope for survival.

This one isn't too much of a throwback considering it was published in May of 2006. If you haven't already read this, though, you should! Here is what I wrote for my short review on paperbackswap.com back in July of 2007:

Great book! I really wasn't all into it at first because I was not interested in Depression-era circus life. But I am telling you, as little as this interests you, this book is great and it will MAKE you interested in circus life. It's told by the main character when he is near the end of his days in a nursing home which makes it interesting since he is telling a story of his past.

I am the same way. This has been on my shelf for many years. It's one of those popular books that I just havent' gotten around to reading.

Okay, now, I just may have to try this. I was put off by the same reasons you listed, but it sounds like it will be worth the read!

My throwback is here:

all -- I probably wouldn't have read it if it hadn't been so popular on paperbackswap.com but I'm definitely glad I did!

Even with the popularity on PBS I still haven't read it. It is on my must read challenge list for next year though...
