Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday – this is a weekly event hosted by me! It is the time each week to recognize those older books… an older book you’ve always wanted to read, or one that you have read and love; maybe one from your childhood; or review an older book -- how about even a classic! Leave a comment here and feel free to take the icon and use it on your blog!

This week's throwback is The Silver Pencil by Alice Dalgliesh. It was published in 1944 and was named an honor book for the newbery award in 1945.

From the back cover:
One special Christmas, Janet Laidlaw's father gives her a silver pencil "for her stories," and she begins to write about the lush island of Trinidad and her family's "House on the Hill." Then Mr. Laidlaw's tragic death forces Janet to leave the only country she has ever known. From one school in cool green England, to another in America, Janet tries to find both a home and her life's work. Throughout it all, she uses her silver pencil to turn her life into stories -- and her story brings to vivid life a world that has gone forever.

I saw a meme recently that asked what your favorite book was when you were 10. I immediately thought of this. I no longer remember anything from this book or know if 'd even like it now as an adult, but I remember I loved this book then! I was so motivated to write more after reading this too. I think I bought it from one of those scholastic book catalogues and it has been on my shelf ever since!

I didn't read many children's books but this one does sound special. I should do this meme. I already do one that's similar called My Favourite Books. It's posted if you are interested. You have a lovely button for this one. I can always do both. :) Hope you have others join you soon.

This sounds like a wonderful children's book. I also love Throwback Thursday. I'm definitely going to use your button, and start also.
