RIP IV Challenge

I've been thinking about this one for a while and decided it would be fun to do...

Dark Fantasy.

There are two simple goals to the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril Challenge hosted by Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings:

1. Have fun reading.
2. Share that fun with others.

R.I.P. IV officially runs from September 1st through October 31st. But lets go ahead and break the rules. Lets start today!!!

I will be doing

Read Four books of any length, from any subgenre of scary stories that you choose.

The rules state we do not have to choose our books ahead of time but I would like to list a pool os possible reads. And I'll allow myself to change any of the books out at a later time.

  • Rebecca by Daphne De Maurier
  • The Shining by Stephen King
  • The Birthing House by Christopher Ransom
  • In the Woods by Tana French
  • Out by Natsuo Kirino
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
  • Don't Look Now (short stories) by Daphne De Maurier (if I can find them anywhere!)
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions for books that would be great for this challenge!

What a great list you have. I really enjoyed Rebecca. Out was a very interesting read. I remember reading The Shining years ago, when I was a teen, and just being riveted by it.

If you haven't read it, I would suggest The Thirteenth Tale as well. Fantastic book.

I'm so happy you decided to join in this year, thanks!

Thanks! I have read The Thirteenth Tale, but that would have been a good choice. That book was a lot like Wuthering Heights which is one of my favorites!

Oooh, this actually sounds like a really fun challenge! What book are you going to start with??

I think I'm going to start with Rebecca. I've been wanting to read it forever. Then I think I'll read The Shining closer to Halloween b/c I think the atmosphere around then will make it fun! Those are the two main ones I definitely want to read.

I love The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and I have In the Woods in my TBR.

I've actually heard good and bad about In the Woods but I still really want to read it. And I don't know why I keep putting off the dragon tattoo one b/c I've heard so many good things about it!

I gave in and joined this one too! I just love the genre and the spirit of the challenge.

Tina -- I don't know that it's scary, but I've heard it described as "gothic" and I think it's sort of a dark mystery. Heard wonderful things about it though!!

Trisha -- Yay! I think it will be fun too. Especially around Halloween time. I'm saving The Shining to read near the end at that time.

Rebecca is really good (ever see the old black and white movie? excellent also) In the Woods was very good..a tiny disappointment in the end but overall a good mystery.
